What a refreshing sight! The Cowboys' draft day war room was abuzz Saturday. Jerry was wheeling and dealing and high-fives punctuated an exciting first day of the NFL draft. Even more refreshing, the miserable, massive Parcells was nowhere to be found.
The deal Jerry made with Cleveland was nothig short of genius. It was a businessman fashioning the best deal possible for his organization. When Brady Quinn landed in Jerry's lap, so did control of the 2008 draft. Cleveland, who passed on Quinn once, couldn't resist nabbing him when given a second chance. But it would cost them. Jerry saw to that.
Tony Romo was smiling from ear to ear (what else is new?) as he watched the Cowboys deal the rights to Quinn. In one smooth move, Jerry expressed confidence in his young gunslinger and hedged his bet. Now Romo gets a year to prove himself. Should he stumble, Dallas is in position to take whomever they want in the 2008 draft. They could have the best quarterback on the board, if they feel they need him.
But if Romo does what all Cowboys fans hope he does, if he proves to be the cornerstone of the organization for years to come, then the team is free to fill whatever need(s) is/are most pressing.
Here's hoping all goes well in 2007 and the Cowboys land a franchise running back in 2008. If that happens, happy days are here again!
Jerry takes more crap from local media than any sports figure in DFW history. Some of it is deserved, but most of it isn't. When he does something that makes such perfect sense, the least the local nay-sayers could do is friggin' say so. If they won't; I will.
Thanks for the ride, Jerry.
